Sudbury River Canoe Day Trip - 2007

A canoeing day trip was held June 9.  The trip was about 8 miles of flat water canoeing through Sudbury, Concord, through Minuteman National Park, and the Great Meadows National Wildlife Refuge, on the Sudbury and Assabet Rivers.

Mr Lueders and Mr Marble took off early with the canoe trailer, to get the canoes in position at the take off spot.  The rest of us joined them about an hour later.  The weather forecast had been for probable showers and rain all day, but thunderstorms were to be far west of us.

As you can see from the following pictures, although there was no rain when we arrived at the take off at 10:30am, it began drizzling soon after we started out in the canoes, and quickly became a steady rain.  (I apologize for the blurred pictures, but I was forced to protect my camera inside a plastic bag.)

We reached our landing spot at 2:30pm, everyone pretty much soaked, but happy.  We loaded up the canoes onto our trailer and headed home to Medfield.  Despite the rain (which was heavy at times) and the occasional rumble of thunder in the distance, everyone seemed to have a great time and felt that the trip had been a great Scouting experience.

My congratulations to all who attended.  And our special thanks goes to Mr Marble for organizing the trip, and Mr Lueders for handling all the canoes!
