Well, this November, the original plan was to camp at Purgatory Chasm State Reservation, in Sutton, MA, (something not normally allowed by the State) and explore the various rock formations and caves in the chasm itself. However, as the date approached, the impending weather forecast was for steady, sometimes heavy, rain all weekend. It was decided that we would shift the destination to a closer location, just in case the conditions worsened. With some last minute scrambling by the Troop Committee, they arranged for us to camp at the Hale Reservation in nearby Westwood. Indeed, it was a rainy, wet campout, but as you can see from the pictures below, Scout Spirit prevailed. From the teamwork involved in raising the tarp, to the unique method of starting the fire in the pouring rain, to the interesting (and some familiar-looking) meals that were prepared, I'm very proud of everyone (scouts and adults) who stuck it through the weekend. |
