Nantucket Bicycle Trip - 2007

Please bring (or mail) your signed permission slip and payment NO LATER THAN the September 25 troop meeting.  We need to arrange for food, tickets, car pooling, etc, based on attendance.

>>  Several adult volunteers are essential for this trip, especially with having two departure days.  We need adults to accompany the scouts to Nantucket on each departure day, as well as stay with us at the camp.  We also will need drivers to carpool to/from the church on each day.  Please contact either Mike Lueders or Gary Wheeler if you can help out.

There will be an overnight bicycle trip to Nantucket island, on Sept 28 - 30, 2007.  We will ferry from Hyannis to Nantucket, then bicycle to BSA Camp Richard.  Check out these links to our 2005 and 2006 trips.

Since Friday, Sept 28 is a "no-school" day, we are planning two departure dates.  This will allow an extra day on the island, for those who can make it.  The Saturday, Sept 29 departure gives those who attended Nature's Classroom earlier in the week, more time to "prep" for Nantucket.

The first departure will be Friday morning at 6:45am in the UCC parking lot.  We will assemble there, get any remaining troop gear and then carpool to Hyannis.  We will depart Hyannis at 9:15am, and arrive at Nantucket at 11:30am.  Bring a bag lunch to eat on the ferry or after arriving at camp.  (Food is available on the ferry, but pricy.)

From there we will bicycle to BSA Camp Richard, which is about a 20 minute bike ride from the ferry.  All of our gear will be transported from the ferry to Camp Richard via taxi, so there will be no need to bicycle wearing heavy backpacks.  At Richard, we will set up camp and then, enjoy the rest of the day bicycling the island, swimming, fishing, etc.

The second departure date is Saturday, Sept 29.  The same schedule will be followed as for Friday.  However, there will be no need to transport any troop gear, as that will have gone with the Friday group.  Lunch will be available from the troop.

Island activities will include bike touring, swimming (if weather permits), shore fishing (maybe), sightseeing, etc.  Camp Richard also has a sports field (bring your own gear) and an indoor rec room with ping pong & bumper pool.

Sunday morning, after breakfast, we will pack up and ride back to the ferry.  Our gear will be again be transported via taxi.  Upon return to Hyannis, we'll load up the cars and head back to Medfield, expecting to arrive at the UCC around 5:00pm.

The troop will provide meals for Friday dinner, Saturday breakfast, lunch and dinner, and Sunday breakfast and lunch.
