Snow Hill Day Hike - Oct 2007

This October we held a day hike at Snow Hill in Dover.  We hiked from the Esco Tool parking lot, up Park St, to North St, to Pine St, into Dover and up the gated road opposite to the Snow Hill cabin site.

One of the goals of the trip was to help our scouts with advancement in their basic outdoor skills needed for Tenderfoot, Second Class and First Class ranks.  Focus was on fire building, stove safety, cooking and map& compass work.  Scouts (& adults) cooked their own lunch & dinners, and all participated in a cross-country orienteering course that had been set up by our youth and adult leaders.

We took  a break and hiked over to the fire tower.  But for whatever reason, there was a preponderance of hornets flying all around the steps up the fire tower, which would have made climbing to the top very hazardous.

Several of the attending scouts succeeded in completing the few remaining requirements they needed, and were ready for the upcoming Board of Review.
