Child Island/Webelos - 2005

This year, our annual Webelos camping event was held on December 4, and we decided to run our own mini-version of the Klondike Derby, which we nicknamed the "Webelos Derby".

Unfortunately, our usual location at Child Island was inaccessible due to high water from the heavy rains we'd had this Fall.  Instead, we relocated ourselves to "Lueders Woods".

Our patrol leaders, along with our other 9th-grade scouts, camped out Friday night, waking to a fresh layer of snow deposited by that night's storm.  They then proceeded to set up our Klondike stations, consisting of fire building, catapult launch, the classic "crossing the creek", and a problem solving game they had learned about during our own Junior Leader Training session (ie, duct tape up a tree).

A lunch break was taken, where the Webelos were shown how to create and cook their own "tin-foil" dinner.
